If it was me I would be taking that bumper cover off and looking for hack repairs of the systems in the front end of the vehicle.

Also I would be scanning the system with Xentry and make sure that there are no codes related to malfunctioning systems. In this model the events that are captured by the system are astounding. Burnt out light bulbs get recorded in the history.

As part of my E320 CDI sedan to E320 wagon engine swap, I will most likely need to employ an Xentry system. I am in the market for one. After learning how to use it, I can check my fleet of W211's (well not all mine, but 5 in my immediate family) for these events & codes. My Icarsoft MB II will tell me quite a bit, but can't dig deep like the Xentry.

Always a good idea to inspect any used car.

As a side note, if buying from a salvage auction ( like Copart ) pretty much never buy from a seller that isn't an insurance company or maybe a new car dealer. Some brokers buy wrecks at salvage auction, quickly hang a few parts on the car to make it look like a light hit then flip it.

I got the turbo actuator today, and am headed over to my friend's shop wher the car is to install it. I hope to get it fixed, smogged, and registered today. Wish me luck!

That is assuming the motor is bad. If the electronics are bad, I would need to replace the entire unit. I contacted a local turbo shop, and they have the ability to test my actuator. If in fact the motor is bad and nothing else, I have several options. I will find out later when I have the unit tested.....Rich

As jay_bob suspected, there are headlight washer under the bumper cover. I have no doubt the front was damaged. However, I will not complain one bit! For what it cost me, and what I have to do to make it road worthy, I am very happy!
The other day I treated it to a trans fluid change, oil and filter change, and air and cabin filters. The seats are at the upholsterers, and should be done next week. Till then, I am waiting for the G-109 turbo actuator to arrive. I will then be able to get it smogged and registered......Rich

Just last week, I finally got the turbo actuator in, the car smogged, and the upholstery done so the car can be driven. I have to confess though, I don't actually own the car. I bought it with a friend's money, and had to do all the paperwork in my name because I was the one that purchased and took delivery of it. My friend (Dave) was able to work out with the DMV service a way to bypass me, and register it in his name. The car is now repaired, insured, and derivable. Needless to say, Dave is VERY happy with it. He graduated from a '99 E300 to the CDI, and is loving it. A bunch of us met for breakfast the other day, and I got a photo. The CDI, E300, and my TD. The CDI has nice new upholstery in the front seats, and is (mostly) all cleaned up. Dave plans to send the ECU to Rocketchip soon, and when it is returned, he is planning to sell the E300........Rich
EDIT: Oh, and Dave named it "The Silver Bullet"

There was a $3000 CDI on CL in south florida for two days, then it was deleted. I just spent over $500 for the windshield wiper motor install because my wipers didn't work. The cars can be overly expensive to keep.
