Another move possible??
I've had a company in Savannah, GA playing tag with me for about 2 months. They'll call or email, and I'll call or email them back.
Today, I was tag-teamed. I tried ignoring a cell phone call during my PT appointment, as well as an email. I got home, and 10 minutes later, the home phone rang. It was the company in GA wanting to talk with me. Since they had the plant manager as well as the VP of the company on hold for me, I decided to entertain them with an interview. It seems that my very special skill-set in my trade is in great need within the company. The VP and plant manager are both guys that I've known for years, but didn't know they had moved down there and were working together. They both have spent the better part of 6 months, trying to track me down so that they could get me to move down there and exploit my skills...at a handsome cost to the company. After an hour and a half, they have decided to do a little more thinking on what I want...I want them to buy my house, or sell it for me, put me up in a company owned house for a period of 6 months, help me locate a property management company to manage my rentals, and pay for the entire move, including professional packers for the household items. Their hang up is handling my current home. I don't want it rented out, because it's got too many handcrafted details and scrollwork to allow a renter to destroy. I'd rather they buy it and sell it, or they handle the issues of finding a buyer for me...since I'll be too busy in GA getting set up in a new place, a new community, and a new job to deal with it. We'll find out next week. My wife is excited about the fact that snow is, for the most part, non-existent there. She's also excited about moving close to the ocean. I'm excited because the wages are damned near double what I currently make, and I wouldn't have to worry about packing the stuff up. The kids don't know...nor will they until a decision is made on the matter. My daughter wants us to move back to Utah, because she liked the Rockies, and my son has stated that he'd rather we move to California, because of all the "hot girls" there. While I'm not looking forward to another move, getting away from the cold weather would be nice for a change.

Well, since you asked:
You are completely within your rights, and I fully expect that they will agree to dealing with the sale of your house and your moving expenses however you require. Here's where maybe I'm sticking my nose in your business, but just take it for what it's worth. In twelve years of school through high school, my Dad moved us seemingly ALL the time! I went to 12 schools in those 12 years. When I moved where I am now, my oldest was halfway through the first grade and I pledged never to move them while they were in school and I honored that pledge. Just make SURE you know what it's involved with moving the kids. You are doing the right thing in thinking this over thoroughly. It's a tough and serious decision. I offer the very best of luck with it.

I'm looking at a job that I'd be VERY happy doing what comes easily to me, and making a great amount of money doing it. If you don't like your job, it's time to look for something else. I'm not a big fan of where I work, even though the OT is plentiful and the benefits are good...the work sucks and is very time consuming. In the end...it will be whatever provides the kids with the best education and situation that makes the decision.

You're a great parent JP, but that has long since been established by various posts of yours on this forum!
To sort of reword what you said, my Grandpa told me "find a job you love and you'll never have to work another day of your life." I'm sure you'll make the decision that's best for you and your family.

Not that big of deal to handle the house - they shouldn't even balk with that. Many Prof. Relo services out there to handle that. Savannah is a good destination too

See if they will help with the mortgage until it is sold.

Add that to a custom yacht, an island, Gulfstream, mansion in Beverly Hills, F1 Team, 45th Anniversary SL65 AMG...you know, the list of things you can't afford.

Congrats, JP, it's always nice to be wanted.
You've done this enough times now that you don't really need any advice, so I won't offer any. But given how stable you've made your kids' lives, I don't think they'd be too disturbed by this move. And it's hard to imagine how you'd be able to one-up this deal for quite a long time. Good luck with it all. |

Your relocation package and signing bonus should be pretty standard. All moving costs, temporary housing, and closing costs. You try and sell your current home and if it doesn't sell withing x number of months they buy it from you.

Well...Arrangements have been made for my wife and I to spend the first three days of July in Savannah, GA. They've sent me the reservation information, and will be giving me standard IRS mileage for us to drive there.
I insisted on bringing my wife along, because she is a HUGE part of the decision making process...if Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. Anyway, the second phone interview went extremely well last week. Oddly enough, I know one of the guys I spoke with during the conference call. We've worked at many of the same places and with many of the same people, so my reputation in the trade has truly preceded me...which is a good thing. After this step, comes the offer and negotiations, which I'm looking forward to. Our real estate agent is going to come over tonight to take a look at the improvements we've made to this property, and to discuss what a good asking price will be for it. keep your fingers crossed!!

Any updates, Jon?
Sounds like a good opportunity if everything falls into place. Your son shouldn't mind GA too much, plenty of hot Georgia Peaches!

Sure...I was going to wait till Friday, but I'll tell you what I know so far.
They brought my wife and I down to Savannah for my interview, which went well. The owner's wife and the VP's wife entertained my wife while I met with the Owner, VP, Plant manager, head of HR, and VP of Sales. 3 of the 5, I already knew from Dayton...I worked with them in the past, which is why they are so interested in me. They gave me a tour, then we headed to a firing range to play with some of the products they make. After the interview, we were entertained on Tybee Island for a few hours, and ate at Uncle Bubba's Crab House...great place to eat! Tybee Island is a nice island community without the highrise hotels. It's best to traverse the island like we did...in golf carts. During the interview, the head of HR was pulled out for a family emergency...I later found out that her father passed away. I'm currently waiting for her to return, because she has to write up the job offer. We've located a decent area that we are interested in, but won't dig too deep into it until the offer is made, debated on, and accepted. The area is in SC, midway between the two plants. I was told to expect the offer some time this week. As for the work, it's what I'm best at...designing and building fixtures and jigs, designing preventative maintenance schedules for existing fixtures and jigs, and working closely with engineers on new products. I've already told them that they would have to help in some manner or another with the sale of our current home and acquiring a new residence. I'm hoping for one of two things...they either locate a buyer for my current home, or they purchase it at a loss and sell it at a later date. Neither is out of line in today's business. I'm hoping to begin the next phase of the dance by Friday...the negotiations.
