Trying to understand your point. Are you saying they do and they don't do this stuff? If so I think that there is a clue in that this seems more prevalent in more affluent areas which tends to point back to the weapons availability issue given the likelihood that impoverished single moms aren't likely to be in possession of an assault rifle.

I see your point here but it's unfair to burden farmers with unskilled people who will cause nothing but problems. Picking up trash on the side of the road seems a more useful program.

Oh heck no. We argue all the time. I just refuse to have discussions when people start shouting. We keep on eating.

We agree on many things. There are two other dems that eat there pretty reguarly, but most are R's.

One fellow is sort of basically R but happens to have a fairly well developed sense of compassion for the poor obtained from running a trailer park and having a wife who is an elementary school teacher in a district which has its share of underprivilaged and low income kids....so on many social issues he and i agree.

Might as well regulate the distribution of automobiles, SUV's, 18 wheelers, etc, as well.

As horrific and sensational as this incident is, the death toll pales in comparison to that on our highways EACH WEEK - including young children such as these - due to stupidity, road rage, DUI/DWI, lack of driver training, DB drivers, etc, etc....

Yet we as a society turn a blind eye to this and accept it as an everyday occurrence, the price of doing business - we pile on ever more safety devices and features onto our vehicles and enact more laws - but other than a slap on the wrist and a monetary fine, for the most part we still refuse to deal with the root cause of the problem -

THE LOOSE NUT HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL.

You can ban the MEANS (guns) of this incident into oblivion, but until you address the CAUSE and the PEOPLE that commit them, you're spinning your wheels - and asking for repeat under a different modus operandi.

I agree 100% with this. I'm thinking about my two sons, one now 21 and the other 24 that are unemployed and live with their mom. They know all the latest video games.

I find this talk about video games and mass killings interesting and confusing. To keep a hobby, life style, what ever you call it that is designed to kill, because that's what guns are designed for, the people that like to keep those killing tools blame it on a hobby, lifestyle, waist of time, what ever you like to call it that doesn't kill, that's harmless in it self, that keeps kids of the streets so they can't scare you old folks. Guns kill; video games don't, maybe with some effort you can kill someone with the DVD box if you really go for it...

Some sort of mandatory military service could be a very good idea. It would be one way to be sure everyone learns responsible firearms management, AND the wackos could be screened out at the same time. Definitely doable.

So to keep your guns we should create a police state: armed guards at schools, floating police stations, mandatory military service, banning video games and violent movies..WTF is wrong with you guys?!

No.

Better training and a wiser populace. Not disarming everyone and making the entire country a fish in a barrel game. Gun free zones are a complete joke.

Agreed.

I have to laugh when I see such a sign. The tragedy is that there are people who exist that actually voted to install such a sign and believe that such a sign will actually accomplish something.

These are the people that get the society that they have.........and, sadly, they deserve that they get.

The average person is a moron.

Everyone wants to relegate to the state responsibility for safety and societal balance, then give them the tools they need to do the job as close to absolutely as possible. I got jumped on for proposing people keep their own kids safe(ironically by someone who views the human race as a disease), so to hell with it. Go ahead and give your kids mind altering pharmaceuticals, with violent side effects, particularly the withdrawals, for a couple decades. But send them to where at least they'll be under constant surveillance. Everything is heading that direction anyway. Skip a few steps.
I mean, you can't put a price on the life of a child, so if it saves even one kid, it would be worth it. Just someone stick to a principle for God's sake. Anyone, please. This fence sitting is killing me.

You have already seen the results of "gun free zones". Legislation was passed to prevent anyone with a gun from coming within 500' of a school. Said people can be arrested if they do so.

How'd that work out?

Pushing further legislation to curtail guns will work out how? And you have some evidence to show this?
