I'm also using a heavier Sanden (709) than the more popular 508 so this rig looks golden!
............................................................................[ UNQUOTE]

I see this on Sanden site............

Due to low demand, Sanden has discontinued R-12 models. This includes the following R-12 compressor series (SD505, SD507, SD508, SD509, SD510, SD708, SD709, TR70, TRF90, and TRF105). There are R134a replacements for the R12 models in most cases. Please contact one of our distributors for more information.

Seems I miss read this above about the 508 Rich.. So, any of the above will work.

That is another advantage for using this style compressor, they all mount the same. There are also plenty of Chinese copies available as well. My local shop has installed many of them and have had no problems.

Update:

I just picked up the oil cooler brackets (ordered 30, got only 11) today. The guy made them out of 3/16 material because his machine does not work very well with anything thinner. 3/16 is overkill for this bracket, but it will work for this batch. The problem is, I will only have 22 pieces total for cad plating (I was hoping to have at least 40). That will make it cost prohibitive for plating, so I will have to paint them.

They seem to fit perfect on the PS pump casting:

I will be drilling them this weekend, and hopefully getting the plates back from getting the big holes drilled. I can then finish welding everything. Maybe by next week at this time, the kits will be ready to ship out!

Today I made a crude fixture for drilling the oil line brackets (actually worked pretty good!)

Took them to get bent:

Ordered and started gathering idler parts:

I had a hard time finding everything cheap enough to stay at/under budget, but finally found a decent price on a couple items and ordered them. All the parts should be delivered by the end of next week. I was supposed to have the plates today ready to finish welding, but they got delayed. Hopefully by tomorrow, I will get them. I may be ready to start shipping by sometime next week.

Thumbs up

How did you end up routing your high side hose through the radiator support?

I had to have a No 8 brazed to the old hard pipe.

I had done that exact same thing. Both hoses were made using the old fittings (welded on new barbs), and new fittings on the compressor end.

I got more parts in the mail today:

I picked up the plates that were drilled:

I had to have the large bolts turned down so they will fit through the block:

On the engine blocks I have (3), the black oxide bolt would fit through the hole in only 2 of the blocks (snug), and not in the third. The cad plated bolts would not fit in any of them. I had 6 thousandths taken off so the bolts will fit without any problem. The stock bolt is 12mm, and the hole is just barely 1/2". I need the fine thread 1/2" bolt to hold the eccentric cam for the idler. The second generation plates will not have an idler, so I will use a metric bolt and nut. I don't think a 1/2" bolt is used in the Klima bracket, but must be a 12mm (I am sure they did not want to hassle with machining new bolts!).

daw-two has spoken for 2, and I only need 2. That means that all 10 are spoken for. If you are on this list, please PM me (if you have not already).
The price is $150 plus $15 for Priority shipping/handling. Parts included in the kit: Mounting Plate, Eccentric Cam, Idler Pulley, Belt, Long Bolt, 3- Plate to Block Bolts, Oil Line Bracket & Bolts, Compressor Mounting Bolts.

I can only accept CA$H as payment sent to my P.O. Box. Don't worry, I have been selling like this for years and have not lost a payment...Rich

Yes. Next time I would like to be able to afford to make at least 30 kits.

I went to my local fastener store and bought a bunch of bolts:

I got a package from Rock Auto containing the belts:

I am hoping to get the rest of the parts back from getting laser cut, so I can finish the welding. From now on, I hope to have all the parts cut by laser or water jet. I met a guy that is willing to work with me to get the parts made. He builds sprint car frames, and is at the place that does the cutting every other day or so. He can get the parts cut and provide the material cheaper than I can (he does a LOT of business with them).
My job today is to fix the mistake I made with the welding fixture that was used to drill the three holes that mount the plate on the block. I had all the big holes drilled in the plates (3- 5/8 holes at an angle), but they were 1/8" off. I made the fixture using the aluminum casting that held the R4 as a base for setting up the welding fixture. The problem is, the bolt used for the R4 is 12mm, and the hole in the casting is about 14mm. I am using a 1/2" bolt that just barely fits through the hole in the block. In making the fixture using the casting as a guide, the plates don't line up just right. I have to actually weld all the parts on the plate with it bolted to the block, and re-make the fixture with that plate. I fixed only 3 plates yesterday, and hope to get more done today.
When it comes time to start shipping these out, I will start a new thread. I will post the installation instructions and photos there, rather than printing something up. It will be much easier, and any changes will be available for all to see....Rich

I got the compressor mounts back from laser cutting:

I will weld these on, and then paint all the plates. Charmalu has paid for his already, so his will ship out first. Those of you that are on the list can start sending $ and I will have them ready to ship when the $ arrives.

I will be starting a new installation instruction thread, and will be using my SD for the photos. I will need to remove the existing plate (without disturbing the charged system), and replace it with one of the new painted plates. I am also testing each plate on my spare engine to make sure everything lines up properly before sending them out....Rich

Things don't always go as planned.

Things don't always go as planned. I got the compressor brackets ready to weld on, and I could not get both bolts to go through. It seems the laser cutter messed up. The hole centers are off 1/8" (you can barely see in the photo the difference between the sample and finished part):

I will have to take them back and have them make them over, or fix them. I had to modify two of them for Charlie's kit, so I can send his by Friday. The rest of the brackets should probably be ready for welding by Monday of next week. I hope to have the kits ready before the $ starts coming in for them.
I have already started making cardboard patterns for the gen.2 kits. I have looked at Klima's kit, and will improve mine using the best concepts from both.....Rich

Ready to ship (almost)

I was happy to get the corrected compressor mounts back today from the laser cutter:

That means I can finish the welding and painting, then the kits will be ready to ship out. However, when taking photos for the installation instructions, I found that I ordered the wrong size belts! I ordered 17360, when I needed 17390. I will re-order the correct size, and THEN the kits will be ready to ship when the belts arrive. Two members have paid, so I went to O'Reilly and got two correct size belts, so I can ship out the two kits on Monday.

I used the plate I finished the other day to make the installation photos on my spare engine. Here is the kit ready to ship:

I started a new sale/installation instruction thread.
617 Sanden style A/C Compressor Mounting Kit For Sale + Installation Instructions
Any installation questions should be posted there.....Rich
