what's the spec's for the fittings on the condenser that will match up to the hoses you make, Rich? Are they #6 and #8?

Will the hoses in this kit work with a W116 300SD?

Totally bummed out! Wish I knew earlier about this.

I had no idea you made this kit, and I'd bought the Klima kit several months ago. Sadly, I get a little compulsive sometimes, and when I saw the Klima kit I just bought it and put it on the shelf, knowing that at some point in my project I'd be using it.

I began to install it a few weeks ago (then have taken a long break due to some travel) and discovered so many things that were very disappointing: 1) The use of SAE sized nuts and fittings!!!!! I couldn't freaking believe it, I don't own hardly any SAE tools. 2) Bolts that came with the kit to mount the bracket to the Sanden 7-cylinder compressor had heads that were tool large to clear the pulley! Klima did send new allen head bolts that clear, but twice said they'd been sent, when they had not been and then just began to no longer respond to emails or phone calls.

I'm at a point where I'll have to "make it work" given the investment I've put in it, but my experience should help others here to decide.

Hopefully, you guys can help me if I run into more problems.

Thanks for the picture.

I found this on ebay in Iowa from radiators-r-us

New Universal AC Condenser 16" x 19" Parallel High Flow Street Rod Truck | eBay

I am unsure if my current condenser is good/leak free. I could certainly pressure test it to be certain. I have to ask how much of an improvement in cooling performance there is with this condenser (PFC) and the 7 cyl compressor as opposed to the stock condenser I have? If the difference is significant, I will make the change. The cooling performance of the W123 as delivered from Mercedes is lack luster at best IMO.

Thanks.

This is the one I use:
New 16" x 20" Parallel Flow Universal Condenser Aluminum O Ring 6 and 8 | eBay

I have also had an inquiry about the low side hard pipe. This is one that has had the fitting welded (brazed) on:

I offer this service for $40 (return postage included), or you can have it done locally with the fitting provided in the hose kit....Rich

New 126 hoses

I just got finished with the latest and final rendition of the hoses for a 126.
A member here ordered a set, and sent me his fittings.
The fittings with the new parts welded on:

I only have the specs to make hoses for a 123, but I can make them for a 116 if need be. I have a friend with a '79 that I can measure to make the hoses...Rich

Thanks. I need to get a diagnosis on what if anything is wrong with the AC in my brother's 1980 300SD, as the belt was not on the compressor when the PO bought it 8 years ago, but probably it is bad so he will want to order this at some point.

See if you can find a "Tubes N Hoses" business in the area Don. They can modify the hose for you.

Rollguy I plan to do the conversion on the one I'm working on this weekend. Still curious how the system works on r134 in the w123?

I have had great results with 134a and the stock condenser. I suggest that you add a relay to run the condenser fan anytime the compressor is engaged. This gives the condenser the air flow it needs to handle the extra heat generated by the less efficient refrigerant. The factory thermal switch is most often late in turning on the fan, so the relay gives the fan a head start, and helps with cooling. The extra efficiency of the Sanden (compared to the R4) is enough to make up for the inefficiency of the refrigerant (at least that is my experience). A parallel flow condenser works even better with this system.....Rich

The pipe on the left in the photo is all I need (was mounted horizontally on top of the engine). Cut the rubber part off as close to the metal as possible. The rest can be discarded (or recycled). The short piece of hose that is clamped to the frame on the right side next to the drier can be removed as well (I can't tell if it is part of the assembly in your photo). The new hose connects right to the condenser, and gets clamped using the existing clamp......Rich

I used a local radiator/air conditioner shop. They did very nice work.
