Anyone know the box ratios in the w124?

this should be the same getrag thats in the w201's I have 2 of those, they are fairly easy to find in gassers

It looks like what they are doing is moving the transmission backwards slightly, blocking off the starter 'wart' on the left side and using the adaptors to create a new one on the right side. The replacement bearing must move the clutch disk forward to compensate for the shifting back of the tranny.

it looks to be about the same thickness as the 300D adapter plate, it looks like the trans is clocked about 15-20 degrees but I think it looks about the same rearward spacing.the pilot bearing difference might just be the pilot diameter on the end of the input shaft may be a different diameter

You said that price excludes tax? Thankfully we don't have to pay the 25% VAT in the US, but in general when shipping items from Sweden to the US the amount VAT would add ends up being what it costs to air freight things to us.
Cheapest way to get them here is to do a group buy of them and have them pack everything onto a pallet and send it sea freight. Then someone in the US just unpacks the pallet and sends the plates across the US. I've been involved in several group buys from Sweden that worked this way much much cheaper than airmail.

I'd look elsewhere. We Volvo drivers have a habit of shredding the Volvo M46 and M47 5-speeds with stock power (torque really). Adapterplates are popular for fitting the T5 (Ford and GM) and the Getrag (BMW) to the Volvo motors.

You took the words right out of my mouth! I just replaced the trans in my 190D, and was wondering how I could adapt one to fit a 300. Yes, they (5 spd 201's) are fairly easy to find in the States.

not a thing, no money in it. if there was a market I would pursue a solution, but each time I post an exploritory thread with a solution the thread goes off on a tangent and in the end no one wants to pay anything to put a non stock trans in their car.

I posted a thread about a getrag 265 5 speed to 61X bell for around $600 that would be a bolt in with stock over the counter BMW and MB parts. the thread went so far off on a tangent I deleted it. I could design and make a spacer plate to bolt the W201 getrag 5spd to the 61X engine for a similar amount but it is not as good a solution in my opinion due to the starter postion and bolt alignment issues. At this point I have a 5 speed for a 617 so the work was strictly for a modest profit and as a way for guys to get a 5 speed but there just seems to be too much risk of getting stuck with an expensive tool or a lot of metal and no market. I got a great deal on my 5 speed at $500 and another $300 for a shifter. so I feel like the numbers I am quoting are not so far off and the availability of transmissions and parts is much, much better. I waited 1.5 years for a transmission and another 6 months for a shifter from Germany. Ive seen the w123 5 speed kits go for 2K.

I know when I bought my 300E 5spd I researched and found that about 300 US versions were imported from 86-88 IIRC - there are some 5spds on the 190D models too I believe but no idea how many.

Another Volvo owner? Are you in turbobricks too? Over there one of the members (John V) is working on adapting M46 bellhousings to fit the GM T5. If you have seen his work, there is no trying on his part; he will do it. lutzTD, how about going for a Toyota W58? They are not that hard to find. Of course I know nothing whether its spline would be even close to the Mercedes one. Probably the same idea as the 265; people in the Volvo universe slap both of them in their cars. About group buys, I know what you are talking about. I have seen too many people putting feelers out and the attitude of those showing interest is, "I am not going to commit until you have the 10-20 people you need to start the group buy. And even then I am not going to put any money down until the product is built. But, once it is done, I want to get the same price as the 20 who prepaid."

the getrag 265 is the perfect swap, spline count is the same on the input, the rear flange mount style is identical to the MB with very minor modification bolts right up, the bell is seperate so a bell change is feasable and the strongest, cleanest solution, and the shifter is a top rail so shifter position modification is very easy. there are no drawbacks to the getrag other than the initial cost to tool a bell. at this point interest is just not there. I may consider it in the future as there is also a big swap market for MB diesels in other vehicles, but selling 4-5 per year will never pay back the investment and justify the risk.
