The federal authorities actions to DE-escalate a growing volatile situation, where random people were showing up and taking shooting positions on public highway overpasses, was admirable. Well, your sources are mistaken. At the adoption of the Nevada constitution, all "rights" to remaining undistributed public lands were ceded to the feds, and the state could NOT tax them.

Bundy owns by fee simple title little or no land. Any claims his family had "permission" from someone to graze prior to statehood were lost when the Nevada constitution was ratified. He has been illegally grazing federal lands and refusing to reduce his herds as ordered. He's a scofflaw and a welfare mooch. It should be noted that residents of eastern states, like Texas which has virtually NO federal land outside military bases and national parks, would have little experience with issues involving grazing on public lands. It is a uniquely western problem.
