Bad idea. What happens when it does start and he has no way to disengage the clutch? The car runs into the tow vehicle? Sounds pretty irresponsible (and maybe a dumb idea) to try this. I would make sure the clutch (and brakes) are working properly before trying to pull start a car. That is just the opinion of a responsible individual, you can do what you like.....Rich

You are making it a bigger deal than it is. To avoid ramming the tow vehicle, you can shift into neutral without the clutch (whatever you do, don't step on the throttle), you can step on the brakes, you can turn the ign off. Of course, don't try tow starting if you are an uncoordinated klutz. Brakes always a must. Clutch not so.

Can you post a video of the car cranking over? So we can see if the starter is turning fast enough?

To get one of these guys, to wake from their slumber, you really need a good starter, cables battery x2.....pull starting it may very well be the way to go.

Here's some pics of the belts, don't mind the arizona sand/dust...

It seems like it's spinning fast enough to me. I'll take a
Video tomorrow

The belts look better than mine. The chrome on mine is covered in corrosion.

I was in Idaho and then Boston so no new news. I sent my injectors out to be cleaned, balanced and potentially rebuilt if necessary.

Thinking about going out and bleeding the brakes and ten the clutch hydraulics.need to read up on the clutch bleeding as I've heard it can be a pain

I'm probably just going to wait to tow start until I have the brakes working as they should and the clutch pedal

You should post a sound file of your engine cranking so I can tell you if you are meeting minimum RPM, which is around 130 (ideally you want 150 or higher). Getting it started with the starter motor is hell of a lot less hassle than tow starting. Now that you have the injectors out, it is the perfect time for a compression test. I'd suggest doing that before the tow start, which is a last resort IMO.

Haven't gotten my injectors back yet....

Started to bleed the brakes and the daily monsoon came and stayed...I picked up some clear hose to bleed the slave with so hopefully tomorrow I'll have a clean brake and clutch hydraulic system.

Also have a 616 FSM on the way so if I need to rebuild I have the book

The FSM is available for free on startekinfo.com - did you buy a paper version or something like that?

I prefer having the physical book. We have a library instead of a formal dining room in our townhome so I like adding books to the collection and I'll be able to reference the manual if the power goes out or in the event of a nuclear holocaust where only roaches and 240D's survive(I would have survived since a W123 has been scientifically proven to be able to survive a nuclear blast of planet destroying proportions)

Used my misty vac to vacuum flush the brake lines and have fresh fluid through the lines. The right front was being stubborn but I pumped the brakes and it was good to go. I'm going to let the clutch slave gravity bleed and vacuum bleed all of the old fluid out so the minimal amount of old is pushed back into the reservoir. Bought 4' of clear hose to connect the right front to the slave so I van bleed the slave. Right mis the clutch pedal goes straight to the floor and stays. Hopefully I can change that

Pulled fresh fluid through the slave and tried the brake caliper bleeding trick. Didn't work that well, I'm going to do the traditional 2 person method tomorrow.

I ordered all new bushings for the shifter and rods. Everything is shot.

Injectors have been tested and verified to all operate at spec....awesome. Wish I didn't have to pay the $50 to know that.

I'll reinstall, bleed the air out, and try again. I'm going to swap the starter from the '83 to the 240D this weekend since some of you want to know how fast it's starting and the currently installed starter may be original and not spinning fast enough. Hopefully it starts then?? If not I'll get a compression tester and see what's going on.
