Oh, thanks Sixto! What is the thing labeled oil? Is that a second light?

Do you have it set up where it shuts down with vacuum? If you want to kill it with the key, the over boost valve makes for a clean and easy option.

The oil 'thing' is an oil pressure warning light.

How is the over boost valve activate, please?

So the thing just next to it appears to be a led light bulb, are there two lights being activated?

Sorry to be dense but while I am a whiz understanding mechanical things I am a dolt with electrical devices.

Overboost switch routes vacuum to shutoff actuator when unpowered (key off), blocks and vents vacuum when powered (key on). It simulates the mechanical workings of an '80s MB Diesel key switch.

Ignore the oil light circuit in the diagram. All that matters is the wire from the alternator to the charge warning light continuing to ground. I don't understand enough about the resistor and diode but you're looking at another $0.25 in components. Someone like Jeremy can make sense of what does what in that circuit.

You should have had one in the original setup for the as part of the overboost protection. It should have 3 fittings for vacuum lines. When power is removed the internal switch opens and allows the air to pass through. Think of it like T intersection on the inside.

I have mine routed from the vacuum booster to the back of the IP with the overboost circuit in the middle. I left one of the fittings vented to atmosphere. When power is applied (via ignition), the valve closes to the brake booster line and the residual vacuum (between the valve and the IP) is vented to atmosphere, while the line to the booster is sealed and holds vacuum. When the power is removed (key off), the valve is closed to atmosphere and makes a clear way between the IP and the booster. I've been using the brake booster as the vacuum tanks since only a small amount is needed on shut down the engine.

Clear as mud? Hope that helps.

Not my set up but the valve should look something like this. You can see where the 3rd line comes out from the bottom.

Thanks for all the thinking southof, but in my 39 Stude we don't have that switch and both of my parts cars are long gone.

Well, thanks Rich!

The price is right, but I am not clear how it will help me. I have a momentary kill switch now to shut the car off, but I have to shut off the key separately and I forget to....hence the desire to have a buzzer or chime to remind me to shut off the key.

Michael suggests an oil pressure idiot light sensor connected to a buzzer.

Tom,

I don't know if it will help, but here is a wiring and vacuum diagram that I put together during an OCD attack!

Today I drove it a few miles. I got it up over 60 and used all gears. It vibrates a lot more than a mercedes but then I suppose that is how it was designed to begin with. Low speeds with a low compression low power flathead 6.

It showed hot on the way back so maybe there is a bubble in the coolant. We did not install the auxiliary pump in the cooling system for the heater, suppose that is a problem?

The steering is unsafe. I suppose an alignment is in order.

There is play in the rack and pinion. Is there adjustment on a mustang 2 rack and pinion?
