I just recently completed a bunch of work on my 1995 E300D (82k miles):

Replace upper engine wiring harness with used 2004 harness
Coolant flush
Delivery valve seals
Glow plugs
Oil change...

86/87 should be pretty much the same from an...

86/87 should be pretty much the same from an owners manuals and mechanical perspective. You may see some slightly different part numbers here and there on some things like relays that were superseded.

I did. Torn monovalve, no heat at high speed. Replaced with new MTC unit and Again no heat at high speed. Replaced with another MTC unit and it works

Sounds like an injector me. I would crack the lines at the injectors one at a time until you got the noise to go way. That would tell you for sure if it was knocking injector and which one.
